HISTORY

2008 is the inaugural season for the Athens Tigers the newest addition to the Southern Football League. The Tigers are ready to roar and be ready for action in the ultra competitive SFL thanks to the help of a little football star power.

The team was founded by a couple of former college and pro football standouts. Principal owner Willie Green is a former all SEC standout wide receiver for Ole Miss and spent nine years as an NFL Wide receiver. Willie is a two time Super Bowl Champion with the Denver Broncos. Tiger founder and Head Coach Homer Jordan was an all ACC performer with Clemson University. Homer was the MVP of the 1981 Orange Bowl and the first black quarterback to win a Division I National College Football Championship. Mr. Jordan spent four seasons as a quarterback in the Canadian Football League before returning to Athens to pursue business interests.

Home games for the Athens Tigers will be played at Clarke Central High-schools Henderson Stadium, home of many of Willie Greens high-school football exploits. The season promises to be exciting for players and fan alike as we will promote a fan friendly atmosphere that will include lots of stadium promotions and the Tiger Girls dance team.
